Meet the Deacons

New to our church? Thinking about visiting? Our Deacons would love to meet you! Below is a picture and a few fun facts about each of them. If you come visit, be sure to say hi! They are always approachable and ready to answer any questions you may have.


Mark Dial, Deacon at HVBC
About Mark:
Professional Career: Mark is a retired Lieutenant with the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He is currently working in safety and compliance at a trucking company.
Deacon: Mark was ordained as a Deacon at HVBC in 2006.
Favorite Bible Verse: Mark has several favorite verses, but chose to go with Philippians 4:6-7, which says, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Hobbies: Mark enjoys spending time with his grand-kids and weightlifting.

Mike Simons, Deacon at HVBC
About Mike:
Professional Career: Mike has worked in construction for over 40 years. He is self-employed and credits his father for helping him find his true passion early in life. He loves his job!
Deacon: Mike was ordained as a deacon on Father's Day, June 21, 2015.
Favorite Bible Verse: Mike notes that choosing just one verse is difficult, but for today, he chose Philippians 4:7 which says, "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Hobbies: Mike's favorite thing to do is spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoys fishing, golfing, and cruising the Caribbean with his wife, Diana.

Greg Hawkins, Deacon at HVBC
About Greg:
Professional Career: Greg has been employed with Bridgestone for 21 years and is currently the Quality Assurance Manager.
Deacon: Greg was ordained as a Deacon in December 2019.
Favorite Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 16:13 - Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.
Hobbies: Greg enjoys spending time with his family on their farm and hunting.

Kendall Riley, Deacon at HVBC
About Kendall:
Professional Career: Kendall is a veteran of the United States Army. He
retired after 32 years with the Tennessee Highway Patrol with the rank of Lieutenant.
Deacon: Kendall was ordained as a Deacon in October of 2003.
Favorite Bible Verse: Psalm 56:3 - When I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
Kendall also credits John 14 as his favorite chapter. "Jesus tells us more than once in that chapter, 'Let not your hearts be troubled and He has gone to prepare a place for those who believes in Him.' "
Hobbies: Kendall enjoys going on lone bike rides, fly fishing with his best friend and wife, Christine, and visiting with friends and family.
Corey Guy, Deacon at HVBC
About Corey:
Professional Career: Corey is a lieutenant and critical care paramedic with the Putnam County EMS.
Deacon: Corey was ordained as a deacon on June 7, 2015.
Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
Hobbies: Corey enjoys camping in our beautiful state parks and spending time with his family. 
Jason Sparks, Deacon at HVBC
About Jason:
Professional Career: Fire Program Director at the Tennessee Fire & Codes Academy, Chairman at White Co. Firefighters Association, Chief at Doyle Fire Department, Emergency Services Coordinator - ESF4 at TEMA.
Deacon: Jason was ordained as a deacon on September 24, 2010.
Favorite Bible Verse: Psalms 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart  be acceptable in Your sight O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer"
Hobbies: Jason enjoys hunting and hiking, anything outdoors! He loves spending time with his family. 
Terry Haley, Deacon at HVBC
About Terry:
Professional Career: Terry is a farmer and part owner in H&K Construction Company.
Deacon: Terry was ordained as a deacon on .
Favorite Bible Verses: Psalm 40:2 "He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps."  1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Hobbies: Terry enjoys hunting turkey and deer; and watching college football.
